Sadly, even in the non-JW world it can be difficult to get justice for victims of child abuse. That's why the high-profile cases are such victories and strike a chord across society.

Particularly to those who have been abused, the article's instruction and that picture can stir painful emotions and memories. But the information is not dissimilar to what I've read and heard elsewhere. How WT handles real-life cases is a different issue. One we all agree needs to change. I do know elders and JW's who have handled the matter with the seriousness it deserves and contacted authorities.

It seems the tension in this thread is based on a misunderstanding. JT's and fleaman's initial comments simply stated they didn't take issue with the advice given in the book. A couple other posters did not either. They were subsequently accused of not understanding the seriousness of child abuse. They were also accused of supporting WT's mishandling of child abuse cases. That's not fair.

Even among those who have been abused, experiences will vary.

I have an aunt who was df'd for over 20 years. She was reinstated about 5 yrs ago. One of my cousins (3rd) has been disfellowshipped about 26 yrs. He is the most righteous df'd person you will ever meet in your life and says he's coming back one day. Both raised as JWs.

when i close my laptop tonight, i am sleeping for a few hours, taking a plane to lax, going fishing off the coast of catalina, playing golf, going to bishop to go trout fishing for a few days, taking the redeye back, picking up my kids and taking them to the zoo.. so, when, shortly, i close my laptop, it will be roughly one week hence before you have the pleasure of my wit, comedy and all around general awesomeness.. have a hell of week, folks..

No, I don't care if there is a god. When I was a JW I cared a lot. I think believers care about being right more than non-believers. There is more judgement with believers than non-believers. I agree it is the ego that is tied up in one's belief and expression of it.
